Welcome to our quick user guide for Magicplan, an easy to use app that’s a game changer when it comes to quickly and easily creating floor plans for your home. (Download Magicplan on the App Store here or Google Play here
This step-by-step guide will help you through the process of using the Magicplan app to create your floor plan. Don’t worry if you get it wrong the first time around - practice with it, until you get the hang of it. It’s really easy, and the results are great!
01. How to start with Magicplan
First things first, get your smartphone and download the Magicplan App.
Sign up for free (yes, free for your personal floor plan project) and follow the simple setup steps.
Create an account
Sign up with your email and create a password
Check the box that says that you are going to use Magicplan ‘at home, in my free time’.
02. Set up a free project
Once you have set up your account, click the ‘My Projects’ tab at the bottom left of the screen.
Select ‘Demo project’.
Swipe sideways to see the ‘Empty’ box identified as ‘Ground Floor’ on the left, and click into it.
In the next screen, hit the ‘+ Insert’ button at the bottom, and choose Room.
3. Start Auto-scan
Now the real fun begins. You’ll now see a list of options in your Magicplan app screen - choose the ‘Start Auto-Scan’ option. Clicking this will take you to your phone’s camera.
Begin in the room you want to scan first. Hit the red ‘Record’ button and follow the on-screen instructions.
Aim the camera at the wall’s upper edge and watch the magic happen. The app sketches your room in real-time - you’ll see the white scanning lines appear as it traces the walls of your room.
Move slowly around the room giving the camera time to capture every detail from walls to doors and windows - and even furniture like tables, chairs and the sofa you binge-watch Netflix on.
As you move, you’ll see your room being ‘built’ in front of you on the screen. Not perfect on the first try? Don’t worry, you can start again if you need to.
Hiizzy Tip: When you have captured the whole room, rotate slowly to make sure that all walls, doors and windows show up on the model on your screen.
When you are happy with the capture, hit the red Record button to stop the scan and you’ll be able to ‘Review your room scan’. This should show a green outline of the shape of the room and a dot showing where you are standing and which direction you are facing.
Now it’s time to name the room you’ve just scanned - for example, living room, kitchen, etc.
Move to the next room and hit the red Record button to ‘Scan another room’. Work slowly through the room capturing all the detail.
If you try to end the scan before the room is fully scanned, the image on your screen will appear to miss detail, and a message will appear: ‘Your room might be incomplete’. Continue scanning until the room is completed.
Repeat with each next room, slowly moving around to ensure all details within the room are captured properly.
As you complete each room, you’ll see the 3D model of your floor plan building. Move logically and slowly from room to room until you have completed the whole floor of your property - which will give you a completed floor plan.
Hiizzy Tip: If you have different floors you can repeat the process by selecting ‘+ Add Floor’ This can be repeated until all the floors in your property are completed.
04. Share your floor plan
Once you’re done, you can go to your Projects section and see the floor plans you have created. From here, select the bottom option, ‘Files and Sharing’.
Hiizzy Tip: If you haven’t completed your account setup process, with your first name, last name and phone number, you’ll be prompted here to go back to the Account screen and complete these details.
Click on Sketch Files and Magicplan will supply your floor plan in various file format options.
Select the ‘Configure’ icon, and you’ll be able to choose your preferred file format (.jpg option), and send it to yourself via email.
Nearly there! Just email your floor plans in .jpg format to yourself, and save them to your computer.
From there you can upload each .jpg file to your Hiizzy floor plan section and give buyers the full picture of your home and show off its true potential.
Magic, right?! Hiizzy’s all about bringing you access to powerful online tools that help you present your home in the right way to buyers. It’s about putting the power back in your hands, and empowering you to sell your home, your way!
